Where the name comes from

There really is a spring.

A clear creek runs right through the middle of the nursery, crossed by a timber boardwalk, with tree ferns and elephant ears crowding in on both sides. Most people come in for a plant and end up walking the whole way round first.

It is a family run place at 178 Recreation Dr, on the flat between Wooroolin and Memerambi, about fifteen minutes north of Kingaroy. Nothing about it is showroom tidy. The shelves are old dressers, the walls are salvaged iron, the floor is straw, and the plants are the point.

What you will find here.

Six things, roughly, though they all run into one another. That is rather the point of the place.

Plants, grown well

Natives and correas, succulents, ferns, herbs, begonias, coleus, elephant ears and cycads. Every one carries a hand written label telling you where it likes to sit and what it will put up with.

Made here, not just sold here

The frogs, the lizards, the cast leaf dishes, the birdbaths and the big stone pieces are shaped, cured and hand painted on site. You will often find one half finished on a bench as you walk past.

Pottery and candles

Hand thrown planters, glazed figures and hand poured candles, set out along straw lined shelves in the old dressers rather than stacked on racks.

A whole shed of them. Face planters, macrame hangers, terracotta, glazed stoneware and the odd one that has clearly been waiting for exactly the right plant.

The gift shop

Metal butterflies and geckos, wind chimes, soaps, mosaic lamps, fairy and gnome figures. The sort of thing people call in for on the way past and leave with two of.

Fairy gardens

Built into the sheds and the beds rather than boxed on a shelf. Toadstools, little doors, mossy corners and thatched roofs, all of it set up so you can see how yours might work.

Not a catalogue order

The garden art is made on site.

The frogs, the lizards, the leaf dishes and the big stone pieces are cast, cured and hand painted here in the yard. That is why no two of them come out quite the same, and why you will sometimes catch one mid coat on the bench as you go past.

Have a wander

Even if you are just looking.

The display sheds and the beds are built to be walked around, not walked past. Bring a hat, allow longer than you planned, and there is no rush on anyone here.
